Wow. I can hardly believe that it’s halfway through December already. I am pleased to say that I actually completed each month’s challenge for the 2012 free-motion quilting challenge hosted by SewCalGal. I have learned so much and tried a lot of new things with the challenge this year. December’s expert was Patsy Thompson, and she gave a great lesson for doing borders. I now have many great ideas, and want to put more borders on my quilts just so I can use them. In my sample piece, I just drew lines on for fake borders rather than piecing them.
My skills have come a long way this year. This piece is also better because I used a fine thread rather than regular sewing thread. My skills are getting to the point that it makes a difference to use better materials.
The outer border is 1 1/2″ wide, and the inner border is 1/2″ wide. That gives you an idea of the scale I was working on. I’m excited to keep practicing, and hope to finish at least one bonus challenge.

Good job. Your feathers look great. I liked this method of doing them better than others we have tried this year.
