Seeing the world like a quilter

Quilters see the world differently.  When other people see an apartment building with an unusual arrangement of windows, quilters see a quilt.  Inspiration for quilts can come from anywhere, but I especially get ideas from tiles and brickwork.  Here are some pictures that I think inspire quilts.  I may never get around to making them, so feel free to use them as inspiration for yourself.

This is a sidewalk in Beijing.  I almost couldn’t look up because I was studying it so hard.

This is a wall outside a subway station.

This is the floor of a shopping centre in Australia.

This is a ceiling in an exhibit in the Forbidden City.

  1. Beautiful images! I agree–quilters (and artists in general) do see the world through a different lens than most folks. I’m intrigued by your first image–the Beijing sidewalk. It really would make a fascinating quilt pattern. Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. I like the way you think! I especially like the sidewalk in the first picture. It would indeed make a lovely quilt.
